BGSU’s College of Musical Arts combines strong music education, performance, composition, jazz, world music, and contemporary/new music within a large public university. All music majors audition, with in-person or recorded options, and roughly 90 scholarships are offered annually to incoming music students.

SUNY Fredonia offers comprehensive music study in performance, music education, composition, jazz, therapy, sound recording technology, and music technology. About 500 music students study in a highly active public-school environment with 100+ practice rooms, major performance facilities, and strong preparation for teaching, performance, and recording careers.
Portland State University
Portland State combines classical, jazz, music education, composition, and music production with the advantages of a major urban arts scene. Traditional music majors audition, while Sonic Arts & Music Production is non-audition. More than 150 music scholarships totaling about $400,000 annually make PSU especially attractive for students seeking urban professional experience.
SUNY Potsdam
The Crane School of Music is a large, historic SUNY music school best known for music education and strong classical training. About 500 undergraduates study with more than 80 faculty and staff in a tight-knit North Country campus environment. All music majors audition, Crane does not prescreen, and all auditioning students are automatically considered for music scholarships.
Point Park University
Point Park is best considered for musical theatre and music-business pathways rather than a traditional music degree. Its BFA Musical Theatre program is highly competitive and requires a prescreen plus audition, while the Sports, Arts, Entertainment & Music Business BS provides industry-focused training in Downtown Pittsburgh.
