Reach Students Actively Searching for Music Schools
Your program is already listed. Here's how to make sure serious applicants actually find it.

College-Bound Musicians Navigate a Fragmented Search Landscape
Each year, thousands of serious musicians begin researching where to study music in college. Most of them discover only a few well-known programs, even though hundreds of excellent music schools exist.
Music School Finder helps students discover the full range of programs available and helps schools connect with qualified applicants earlier in the search process, as no other resource can.
Music School Finder curates a select group of American music programs recognized for excellence. It was created by Dr. David Lee Fish (Ph.D., University of Michigan) — a former music department chair who oversaw undergraduate admissions, a co-founder of the Association for Popular Music Education, and an educational consultant who has guided hundreds of college-bound musicians through the audition process.
Why College Searches Don't Find You
Most college search platforms were built for general academic majors, not for music programs.
Sites such as Niche and BigFuture allow students to filter schools using general institutional criteria, but they do not include the factors that actually shape music admissions decisions.
The Only True Music School Finder
Music School Finder connects programs with students actively researching music schools and building audition lists. It is part of the College Music Major platform, which attracts more than 10,000 unique visitors each month — serious musicians and families actively navigating the college search process.
These students are typically:
- high school juniors and seniors preparing auditions
- applying to 5–10 music programs
- researching programs months before application deadlines
This is the most valuable stage of the recruitment funnel.
How Your School Benefits
Participation in Music School Finder helps your program:
- reach serious music applicants nationwide
- increase discovery among students who may not yet know your program
- showcase the strengths and identity of your program
- connect with students earlier in their college search process
In a world where most college search platforms treat music as just another major, Music School Finder focuses entirely on the needs of music students and the programs that serve them.
Built From Real Student Searches
Music School Finder was created by Dr. David Lee Fish, an independent educational consultant who works directly with talented college-bound musicians across the United States. Every year, he guides dozens of students in discovering best-fit programs while building their audition lists, and his clients have been accepted into leading programs, including USC, Miami, Berklee, and NYU.
Dr. Fish holds degrees in classical and jazz saxophone performance from Western Michigan University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He directed a pioneering popular music program at Catawba College, where, as department chair, he played a central role in admissions and program development, growing the music program to more than 100 students within just a few years. He is also a co-founder of the Association for Popular Music Education.

You're Already Listed!
Because your program is widely regarded as one of the leading college music programs in the country, we've created a Music School Finder profile using publicly available information.
To view your listing, go to the Music School Finder home page and type the name of your school into the search field.
We invite you to review and verify the information for your school so it accurately reflects the strengths and opportunities your program offers. Only your school can provide the most complete and up-to-date details about faculty, scholarships, program focus, and more.

Stand Out From the Crowd
Featured programs receive an expanded profile designed specifically for music recruitment:
• priority placement in search results
• an expanded program profile
• faculty and student quotes
• program videos and performance clips
• image gallery of facilities and ensembles
• a custom call-to-action for prospective students
• verified program status
For many programs, featured status functions as a mini recruitment page inside the directory.
See a Featured School Example
Before deciding whether to upgrade their listing, many programs want to see what a fully developed Featured profile looks like. We’ve created a sample Featured program page to illustrate how schools can present their program to prospective music majors.
This sample uses a music program at a fictional school, but the page structure is identical to what Featured schools receive.
Students Are Searching Right Now
Every spring, thousands of high school musicians begin building their audition lists. Programs that clearly and compellingly emerge from that process have a significant early advantage in recruitment.
If your listing is not verified, prospective students may miss important details about your program’s strengths, offerings, and fit. That means missed opportunities to attract students who could thrive at your school.
By updating your Music School Finder profile, you can:
- confirm that students see accurate, current information
- highlight the qualities that make your program distinctive
- improve visibility with students actively comparing schools
- strengthen first impressions before students ever visit your website
This is not about broad, unfocused exposure. It is about showing up clearly and convincingly to students who are already searching for music programs.
Launch Partner Opportunity
Music School Finder is currently in its launch phase, and we are inviting a limited number of schools to become Founding Programs.
Schools that join now receive special introductory pricing on Featured School placement.
Launch partners receive:
- discounted Featured School placement
- priority visibility during launch
- long-term pricing protection
Launch partners also help shape the platform's early development. Schools that join early will have a voice in how Music School Finder evolves. Once launch partner positions are filled, Featured placement will move to standard pricing.
Because the directory highlights approximately 250 leading music programs, launch partner opportunities are limited.
Featured placement is available to Launch Partners with introductory pricing starting at $997/year. Standard annual pricing begins after launch partner positions are filled.
